How is University of Colorado Denver as pre-med freshman 4.0 in-state student?

Need to go in-state due to affordability of tuition costs. Currently a senior in high school. Parents live in mountains off I-70. Want to be "close to home." Like the campus, took the tour, saw the dorm. Seems like a true campus environment with a big plus for being "in the city."

Your thoughts?

I'd highly recommend it. I'm a grad student at UC Denver's Anschutz medical campus, and I personally know a few students from the Downtown campus. My impression is that UCD will provide you with a quality college education. You probably already know Denver is a great place to live in, and having school and dorms in downtown Denver is great. The only negative thing I've heard about the downtown campus is that the location and management of the student apartments at Campus Village are, well, not ideal.

There are quite a few collaborations going on between the downtown and the medical campus that I'm aware of. There is also a shuttle service between the two campuses. Taking advantage of the collaborations between the two campuses (maybe doing a small research project in one of the labs at Anschutz) could really help your application for med school when you graduate, especially if you apply to med/grad school at Anschutz.

You probably have also figured out that UCD won't give you a "traditional" college atmosphere - there's no sports team to root for, for example (unless you want to root for the CU Buffaloes from Boulder). It's very academic here. So if that's not much of an issue, I think it would be a very good decision to study at UCD.
