I would add craigslist to the list the other answerer gave. And to reiterate what he said, you might have a book that you think is worth huge amounts but it turns out it's worth nothing. And $3.00 is nothing. That's what new comics go for nowadays, the LOW PRICED ones. I've given a couple of links below to start you off grading and valuing your comics. Remember thought that as the saying goes, a comic is only "worth" what someone is willing to pay for it.
The downside to selling to a comic shop (if they will buy at all) is they'll give you maybe 10-30% of the comic's value. That's just business, they have to buy low and sell high. Some comic shops (like the one I go to), instead of buying your comics they take them on consignment. They have th customers and you have the comics. It's a 50/50 split.
Garage sales & craigslist, and to an extent ebay, you get to keep more (or all) the profit but people are looking for bargains there. And for ebay you'll have to pay for the listing and for shipping, so you'll net less.

You can sell comics at several places. First is at a comic book store. Second is on ebay. Third is at a yard sale. Comic book prices vary in major ways. For instance a comic that you think could be worth $500 dollars could only be worth $5.00. My personal advice aside from your question is to do some research into the comics you hope to sell. Most buyers look for rarity of the issue, the original price of the issue, and the year it was written. I tried to sell a 1986 comic with OJ on the back selling Dinjo Shoes. I figured it be worth at most $100 $50 at the least. I went to my comic book guy and found out it was worth...$3.00. So do some research and do not get your hopes up to high. Hope I helped.
