why is grey haired women wearing black, red, brow, platinum wigs? i understand vanity, but this is ridiculous! 80 years young wearing blond, black, red, or brown wigs, i just don't get it. please don't tell me that grey wigs are not attractive because i have seen plenty styles of grey wigs. just thought i'd ask that question? thank you in advance for your honest answers
i'm sorry that i didn'y clarify . i know that 80 is old age. that was not my point . the ? people preferring color over being a natural grey. i have grey hair & i'm 58. i love my grey hair. just thought it was a good question to ask. in just a few minutes i received such negativity.

I think grey hair is (or can be depending on how it's maintained) gorgeous, but then it is a sign of aging, and our culture is afraid of aging.
I'm not middle-aged, but I think it all comes down to a fear of getting old and being perceived as old.

I will be 56 in like 2 weeks, I have always had very very dark brown to black long hair...it's harder to blend dark hair, blondes have it easier, their grey blends in better with lighter hair. I would not mind all grey hair if it would come all at once but this salt and pepper thing is not for me and is something most women don't like.
It's good your happy with your hair..enjoy it, and saves you time and money.
I am also a licensed Cosmetologist, although I don't do it full time anymore, a majority of my women clients feel and felt as I do..As of now I just have some grey hair around my forehead, and the rest of my hair like 98% of it is still very very dark as it has been, and it does not blend well enough for me.
I have not seen any big trends in wigs, except with african american women, between perms (relaxer treatments) like to where wigs sometimes while they wait for their hair to get repermed, so they do buy more wigs than most, at least out here out west where I live, otherwise not many women wear wigs out here, although it's over 100 degrees for almost half the year out here too.
Personally I'd never want to ever wear any wig, unless I was a cancer patient recovering from chemo-therapy :)

I don't wear a wig, but I DO dye my hair back to the auburn shade that I had before I started getting grey. While my grey hair looks all right, I do look a lot better without it. I look about 20 years younger, and I also look less tired. And my husband loves it.
My particular shade of grey is quite pretty, but even so, it does make me look a lot older. I've seen a lot of women who have very unflattering shades of grey hair, too.
It's just a style and fashion choice. Some people dye their hair in what I consider to be unnatural shades, such as blue and pink. Most people change their hair color for fun. Since nobody has ever come up to me and forced me to dye my hair to their preferences, I say let other people have their fun! It's one of the most harmless things in the world.
If you love your grey, then don't dye it or wear a wig. Wear it proudly. But let other people choose their own styles and fashions, OK?

I am 42, and I plan to stay blonde for the rest of my life. Unless my hair turns pure white like my mom's, in which case I can't dye it anymore. If you love your grey hair so much, why don't you have a grey-haired avatar? There are a couple of styles that have a grey option.

There are lots of reasons for wigs.
* You sometimes get a slow start on the day and don't want to fuss with the hair -- so you put on a wig.
* You can change styles and lengths, and yes even colors, at will -- so you put on a wig.
* Sometimes you deal with people that have expectations of younger appearance -- so you put on a wig.
* If your hair is growing thin or chemotherapy makes you bald -- you put on a wig.
* Maybe you want to do something stupid silly and fun, like a friend undergoing breast cancer treatments, and if she wakes up wanting to stick a thumb in the eye of the big C -- she puts on her hot pink wig!

Well, 80 isn't middle age, but regardless...I guess they just want to for the fun of it. I agree that grey wigs can be attractive; I think silver-gray hair is very pretty.

Personally, I would never wear a wig. I prefer to dye my hair, or rather to restore the colour that was natural to it before Old Stepmother Nature started turning it grey.

An 80 year old can do whatever the heck she likes as long as she's not harming someone. She's earned it. Same for the guys. Let them take their fun where they find it. They've earned it.

80 isnt middle aged, 80 is old.
And old people dont give a ****, they are doing it for the hell of it!
And why not?

They are going to die soon, if they want to have coloured hair they should. They should be able to look how they want.
