My computer doesn't read my iPod is plugged in?

Question

Whenever I go to my iTunes and plug in my iPod to the charger, it doesn't say my iPod is in on iTunes. You know how it usually shows a picture of your iPod and asks if you want to sync and stuff, mine hasn't been doing that lately.

I just downloaded the newest version of iTunes and my iPod is a 4th gen iPod.

Whats wrong with my computer or iPod?
