New Guinea Pig Problems?

I just bought a new Guinea pig today. I put it in its cage and left it alone for about 1 hour.

I go back and she is in the same exact spot, and didn't move, so I let her on my floor, and she didn't move again. I put her back in the cage and left for about another hour, and I comeback again.

She didn't move.

The only times she moved was when I set her in my sweatshirt and she was just crawling around in my sweatshirt and when I was lying on the floor with her and she ran in my hair.

Why won't she move in her cage or when on the ground?

You should research that guinea pigs are scared and probably don't move so much when they are scared. This is called 'freezing'. My guinea pig didn't move a lot for the first few weeks but eventually she started to sniff around more. Give her a little more time about 3-7 days. That should do it ;)

She's probably very scared and nervous. Give her time to get used to her new home, and she'll eventually start to explore.

Are you going to get a second one? Guinea pigs should always have a buddy, because they are herd animals. Also, they're very skittish, and it's been proven that if they have a friend they will ultimately live longer. When a lone guinea pig is startled, it takes twice as long to calm down as it would if they had a friend to comfort them.

Guinea pigs need time to adjust to their new surroundings. How would you react if you went to a brand new home all by yourself and someone kept moving you and you were a lot smaller then them?

Because she's alone and guinea pigs are suppose to be in pairs.

    She's scared and nervous.
