Are textured images still cool?
Or perhaps they never were. I tend to use the effect quite a bit to take away that digital edge and create some distance from reality in a lot of my pictures but I wonder if the effect is getting all used up like selective color. Or does the effect have staying power, maybe because it's not completely simple. Here is an example of one of my pictures with a lot of texturing done....does it work?

And another where the effect is more subtle....

It would be hard to say whether the effect has "staying power" per se, but in your links it looks like you use it really nicely. Your second image is really strong--is there a way you can soften just her face? Maybe remove some of the lighting around her neck/chin area? I think that would perhaps help you get that distance from reality, but finalize the image in the way you're hoping the texturing would've done.

Just like other art forms, I believe everything has its place. If it gets overused then it tends to get stale, but that doesn't mean that it can't add substance to the picture and enhance a desired mood.

Good art is good art.
But have you been disco dancing lately? The floor's still shaking from what I saw!
