How long should I stick to bottled water after a water-main break?
A water main broke out front of my apartment.. we had no water for about 6 hours, and when it came back on it was full of brown sediment from the bottom of the tank (apartment has a gravity tank on the roof). Doesn't smell weird or anything as far as I can tell, and it runs clear after a few minutes.
I can't find any info from the city, or in the city paper site, or on the local channel about this and the precautions we should be taking.
Any advice?
I live in london ontario if anyone has a suggestion of where to look. I've checked out city of London, as well as London Free Press, but if anyone knows where else to look, it would be greatly appreciated.

If your is water is back to normal color and pressure, you don't have anything to worry about. Go back to normal living. Only 6 hours ?. That was quick. Hope this helps and saves you money.

I would give it a couple days - make sure to take showers and run out water as needed and a little extra if possible. The water line will not clean up unless water is run through it. If you feel unsafe drinking it in two days or so, just get a water filter from the store for your faucet. The three or four stage activated carbon filters will work well to remove anything that would be unhealthy after a couple days.

In the states with this happened to us we drank bottled water for 3-5 days after the repair then boiled for another week. I believe there was a chance of parasite infestation tho.

check with the public health department.
Also City of London Environmental & Engineering Services Department
there are too many 'things' that may have contaminated the tank.
It should be drained and flushed to remove sediment and possibly a water treatment added to kill any residuals.
