why dosnt my playstation 3 hook up to the web?

ok so i got the ps3 for xmas the 250g,,now i dont have wireless so i got a cable from my rutter to the back of the ps3,,now i go to settings and it says enebaled,,,but when i do a test it never finds the conection,,ive tried searching wireless(someone may have it around my house )ANTdNOTHING,,IVE TRIED SEARCHING FOR MY computer ip adress and it times out befor finding it,,what am i doing wrong?thanks

ya ill see the wire condition when i get home,as for setting my rotter to accept my playstation so it can read the ip adress,,,how would i do this,i have a vidieotron rotter(quebc cable company)thanks so much

    check the cable to make sure it is not dammaged, also check the settings on the router to make sure that it is allowing the PS3 to connect and will give it an IP address,

    make sure its set up as a wired connection.. its not gonna be automatic like a pc...
