K-1 Dynamite 2009 MMA Shinya Aoki fractures Hirota's shoulder with new submission?

Should the ref have stopped it before he stretched him out?

thats not a new submission, its a hammerlock. its a very basic shoulder lock from the old days of catch wrestling and a come-along/ restraining technique for law enforcement officers. and the ref could have stopped it but that often leads to a post-fight mess ala royler gracie vs kazushi sakuraba, since a lock like that is based on flexibility of the joint. hirota, however, should have tapped but some fighters just refuse to do so and this is the consequences for doing so.

No, the hammerlock is an old submission that has been used in catch wrestling, pro wrestling, police officers and military. Hirota should have tapped, verbally if he couldn't with his hand. The ref probably should have jumped in sooner as well.

But, it isn't figure skating. It is fighting.

Yes the ref should have stopped it earlier. especially when Aoki had top posiiton and the dudes, arm was trapped behind him in the corner.
