Am I eligible for a British Pension?

I worked in the UK for about 8 years, and my husband for about 10 years, before we emigrated to Canada in the 1970's.

I was wondering if we would be eligible for a small pension based on the contributions we made during those years.

I would appreciate any help with this, although we are not yet of retirement age, I would like to know.

Thank you.

I believe you should be eligible for an allowance from what you contributed while you were working in the U.K but to be sure below is the government website which gives advice, gives you a pension credit estimate and helps you with most other queries, this should be the most helpful advice out there, straight from The Pension Service

    Contact the Pensions Office

    Check with your pensions office

Some countries have reciprocal arrangements with UK eg I spent 10 yrs in Australia but still received my full (including graduated )pension when I retired

You have to have work for at least 34 years to receive a pension in Britain but you may have a claim on a small reimbursement.

You would have to have 10 qualifying years to get less than 24 pounds a week. Your husband would need 11 years. You may be able to buy back some years but you would have to look into this.

Source(s): I have recently enquired about my own future pension.

Not on that number of years and if you did it wouldn't be worth anything.

You have got have at least 30 unbroken years of stamp contributions to get anything worthwhile.

Also going back that far did you pay your own stamp or was it paid on your husband's stamp?
