Budget for my trip to San Francisco?

I am visiting San Fran for the first time in November, we're staying for 6 full days with a friend. We want to do some touristy stuff and some shopping and eat at some nice restaurants.

How much should I budget per day for food?

How much should i budget for transportation? I'm confused about the public transp, there's the BART, taxis, cable cars... how will I know what to take?

Can you recommend some great restaurants?

If you could only suggest 5 things for me to see/ do what would they be?

    If you are on budget, you can get approximately $100 per day ($70 for hotel, $10 to 40 for transportation ) except round- trip airfare around $250 from most part of United States and $15 for food per day, so we think if you make a 3 to 7 days trip to bay area, you probably need $600 to $1000.

    If you really like many touristy and shopping and nice restaurants, then you will need $3000 for 6 days.

    take BART from airport to downtown, take cable car to fishman's wharf and china town.

    You have plenty of time to see all top 10 sites in bay area, see it http://www.bayareavisit.com/

    don't live there but i stayed in the bay area for a while. Food-i imagine most nice restaurants are a bit on the pricey side but probably not too ridiculous for high quality. Just don't eat at fishermans wharf much, i only ate in-and out burger there so it wasn't bad for me, but I heard most the restaurants are pretty expensive. A fun place to visit but also a tourist trap so beware. Transportation- what you will probably use most is the MUNI. Its a light rail system that runs pretty well around san francisco. A ticket to get on muni cost like 2 or 2.50 and is good for like 3 hrs or so. Make sure your ticket has enough time on it for you to reach your destination; muni cops may be checking tickets at the gate. The Bart and Muni are located in the same spots in the city. Bart stands for Bay Area Rapid Transit. Unless you plan on traveling somewhere else in the bay area, you probably wont need to worry about this much, if at all. Public Transpo can be a little confusing to an outsider. Just ask people if you need help. Im not real sure about 5 things you must do considering I dont know your personality. I think that is yours to figure out. If there was one thing I did while in the city that was something I would recommend for anyone going there for the first time is to bike the golden gate bridge to sausalito and take the ferry back. I think that would be a good opening to your vacation. Anyways, hope I helped. Have Fun!

    < MUST 1>

    <MUST 2>

    <DAY 1>

    These are all group, because they are close to each other.

    Like I say below, get the SF popout map..

    *_~ So glad that you're considering San Francisco for your vacation.

    Try to stay in Union Square. When you arrive at the airport, take the SFO air train that goes around the airport, then you’ll get off when you see Bart, take Bart to Powell Station (should be about $6-9 and it takes 20 mins ) that’s Union Square.

    http://www.bart.gov/ for schedule..

    I just love the weather and the diverse culture here!! Traffic can be hectic but still bearable. Public transport is great! You can always take Bart, ferries, bus, taxi or cable car etc. However, if you don’t have much time or want to travel beyond the city – I think a car would help a lot. Yes, you have to pay for parking, but save you time to go more places faster..

    Try the “City Sightseeing Open Top Bus Tour” which is about $30. “This unique open-topped bus tour of San Francisco includes four different routes, the Downtown Loop, the Golden Gate Loop, the Park Loop, and the Night Loop.” You're free to hop on and off as often as you want on the downtown loop.

    Embarcadero is wicked nice, and it's not THAT far, so you could really just walk down it to the Ferry Building. On Saturdays they do a nice farmer's market and you can get lots of good stuff. Walk down to Pier 39.
