Milliliters to Kilograms?
I know thy are not meant to be converted back and forth since they are different units of measurement. But here is the question I need help with.
"A quantity of water is poured into a graduated cylinder, which then reads 134 mL. What is the mass of the water in kilograms?"
I'd like to see the formula as well so I can do it myself in the future.

Water has the property that 1 cm^3 of it has volume of 1mL.
Also that 1mL of water weighs 1 gram.
so 134mL means 134 grams, so 0.134 kg.

You would first have to know the density of water.
Density (gm/ml) = mass/volume
or
Volume = mass/density
Since you already know the volume--134 ml, you can calculate the mass once you know the density. Since this is the key to the answer, you'll have to look it up. It's very simple and hopefully you will not forget it in the future.
Since this will give you mass in gms you'll have to convert this into kilograms. Do you know the conversion from gms to kilograms. I'll just tell you that there are 1000 gms in a kilogram or 0.001 kilograms in a gm.

The density of water (at 4°C) is 1 gram/ml. That's your conversion factor between mass and volume for this exercise.
134 ml of water at 1 g/ml has a mass of 134 g = 0.134 kg
That's only precisely true if the water temperature is 4°C, but the density variation with temperature is low enough that 1 g/ml is a good approximation for the density of water at all temperatures between boiling and freezing at 1 atm pressure.

OK since this is water under standard conditions, 1 mL = 1g so it would be 0.134 kg
However if this was NOT water, you would need to add in the density because remember m = v*d, this answer only works out because water has a density of 1.00 g/mL (under standard conditions)...If it was any other substance, then you would have to know the density and calculate the mass from there

How many milligrams per milliliter in 1 kilogram/cubic metre? The answer is 1.
so the answer would be 134 kilogram
