why is Heatley turning down Oilers?

why is he doing that?

He would be an absolute God here in Edmonton.

Is he THAT stupid? or is it just me?

He's a moron. He demands a trade then blocks it. Hope he spends the rest of his career being a miserable little baby.

Lets see. First he demands a no-trade clause, then demands a trade which should negate the no-trade clause, but then invokes the no-trade clause to avoid being traded to Edmonton, just so the Sens and not the Oilers must pay the $4 mil bonus.

I can understand a player having a different philosophy than the coach and wanting to be traded. But, to do it in such a spiteful fashion when the team seems to have treated you pretty good makes him look like a classless jerk. Burke is right, why would you want him on your team.

Dany -one N Heatley wanted out of Ottawa (world's 2nd coldest capital city) and saw a chance to go to Florida or New York. Dreger had a good blog on this.

But California and New York wouldn't come up with a decent offer for his services. So the only offer came from Edmonton. That wasn't in Dany's plans so he said no. It has cost Melnyk $4MM for nothing. If Dany doesn't go I'd suggest he take that money and buy some nice suits. He'll be the best dressed person in the press box.

Why not Edmonton? Bob's clip hit the nail on the head and Feaster on TSN said it succinctly. If he tried this stunt with Pat Quinn his physical well being would be at risk.

He thinks he is a Super Star in the league.

He wanted to play in Western Canada or NY (Rangers).

Rangers are out now, Flames are out, not sure about the Canucks but I think their interest is low.

So that just leaves the Oilers. I guess he thinks he's too good for Edmonton.

All I hope, is whatever team he is playing for next season, they go to Edmonton.

Also keep in mind, Edmonton wins in this situation. They keep Cogliano.

It's his decision, but Jari Kurri was one of my idols as a kid and if I had a chance to play for the Oilers, I'd hop on it! If for no other reason but to remind the Rangers that $ doesn't guarantee winning the cup. (Though they kinda did that with Edmonton East back in 94)

Apparently Edmonton wasn't one of the teams he wanted to go to. NHL.com says the teams he wanted to move to were one of these New York Rangers, San Jose, Boston, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Detroit, Calgary and Chicago.
