How can I make Iron (III) Chloride? (Ferric Chloride etchant)?

From Hydrochloric Acid (Muriatic acid) and Steel wool?

What is the ratios of combinations and procedure to make, about 1 litre of this stuff?

    Don't even think about etching with Ferric Choride, let alone trying to make your own. It is toxic, can be violently exothermic (unexpected boiling may cause spillage, dangerous air pollution from the fumes, and scalding from the hot liquid) and it permanently stains everything it touches (including human skin).a horrible color.

    Modern PCB etching uses safer (but still hazardous) chemicals such as sodium persulphite. Don't try to improvise, buy them from electronics suppliers.

    Some of the recipes on the web for home made etchants are insanely unsafe - so I'm not going to post links to them here.

    If you live in the UK you can buy it from Maplins or from CPC. Similar stores must operate in the US such as Radio Shack.
