Who the hell came up with the concept of vehicle registration?
Whose bright idea was it to have people pay a tax just because they own something?
WTF is up with vehicle registration? Is anyone actually in support of this as an idea? If so, why? And why shouldn't we extend it to your other belongings?
"Own a computer? Well let's just have a 1.15% tax on the value of that computer, renewable every year, otherwise your computer will be taken away and placed in a room where it will accumulate 10% of its value in fines and storage fees every day we keep it! Thank you for taking it up the hiney-hole. Signed, The Government."
In California the extra .5% added to the car tax (nearly doubling it) doesn't go towards road maintenance. Most of it goes towards the general fund (read; illegal alien social services).
The gas tax is what pays for road maintenance.

The government have to keep the roads in a decent state of repair and in order and to do this they need money and as people who use the road, we have to contribute to the costs of using it. It's just like paying a fee for the gym, to use the bus or the local swimming pool, you pay to use something that isn't yours and the tax for the use of the road is the same thing.
As for vehicle registration, Police and other people need to know who owns a vehicle for collecting said tax, as well as making sure insurances are paid for the vehicle as well as being able to trace cars used in illegal circumstances.
I do agree with vehicle registrations for the reasons mentioned above. Without it, Police will not be able crack down on naughty people who don't abide by the law, I do and I have to pay, like everybody else, to use the road so why not slap the wrists of people who don't?
The only thing I do disagree with is they way they charge people tax. I hardly use my car but I have to pay the same as the Mr and Mrs next door who use their car to drive half a mile to grab a pint of milk each day. I believe they should make is fairer or people, if you use the roads everyday then you pay more than somebody like me who only uses it maybe twice a week. The way, to me, that they can do this is to put the tax on the fuel. This way, the more you use your car the more tax you pay via the fuel you use.
