E-Cigarette VS Tax Revenue, Is the Government Really Worried About Safety Or Money?

Just the US States alone generated 31 billion in revenues from cigarette sales, this is not counting Federal or local tax revenues. So is this why the FDA is trying to shut e-cigarettes down when it is obvious that they are a safer alternative? Read this press release for more info before answering. http://www.ecigaretteschoice.com/news/2/E%252dCiga...

Our wonderful government is having another one of its ever present knee-jerk reactions. The e-cig has been around for going on 5 years now. Makes me ask why haven't they taken some of the money from that extemely huge anti-smoking campaign funds that I have been paying for with my cigarette tax dollars and use it to research this new industry. There already has been some real impressive studies done by doctors. Check out Dr. Murray Laugesen's safety report fron www.healthnz.co.nz. Or research Dr. Jim Loi's work where he has had a 90% success rate for getting his patients off cigarettes using these devices. To stop the importation and sales of these devices are just going to drive the current users back to traditional cigarettes, bad idea. The current taxing on cigarettes has put an unfair burden on the 15% of americans that smoke and to try to transfer that loss of tax to "vapers" has no place since the arguement for the tobacco taxes was driven by the health care cost of smoking the cancer causing traditional cigarettes.

The SCHIP program that Bush vetoed put a tax on cigarettes to raise the money that they plan to use for this "hugely expensive" expansion of this program. However less than 20% of the population smokes and a good majority of those who do are usually financially strapped. So it does both at the same time. As taxes increase, more and more people will do without, but those still smoking pay higher taxes and thus the government gets the same or more revenue from those people. But if this tax is supposed to help the poor with better healthcare, why are we taxing the poor people who smoke who support this program?

Money. If they were concerned about safety they could just make cigarettes illegal. They can't put them out of business because what would they do about all of the Tobacco blackmail money being paid to the States. (From the lawsuit settlement).

The Federal government makes more in tax revenue on a pack of cigarettes than the Tobacco company makes in profit.

They don't give a sh*t about our health. They want our money. Think about it- If cigarettes are so dangerous, why not outlaw them altogether? That would make sense, right?

If they did outlaw them, the fed and the states would lose BILLIONS in tax revenue. There's no way they'll cut off that sweet, sweet flow of money.

Money. Cigarettes are soon going to be illegal in Canada. That's because thier social heath care is losing more money treating people with smoking related illness then it is making by taxing the cigarette

Government is force. It doesn't care about any of us. It's always about the money and those who directly benefits from it. The fight against smokers has nothing to do with safety, it has to do with control and oppression of individual freedom. If its not smokers, it would be hamburgers and french fries or some other thing. My question to everyone is: When does taking something away from someone for "your own good" turn into pure oppression? Who owns your body, do you own it or does the government own it? What about your neighbor's body, do you own your neighbor's body? People should be able to smoke if they want to smoke and buy from ecigarettes if they want.
