Do you know what you have forgotten?

Quiet Exit

In the ether of night air

I imagine seeing the final turns

of my lost memories

as they leave me forever

like young birds, the nest

Is there home or heaven for these forgotten moments,

or do they

like long-dead peasants

crushed under a forgotten plow

merely just pass on,

their quiet whimper

eclipsed by the roar of history?

After the ear ringing stops and

we listen over the din of our aged hearts,

    tomorrow is gently calling us.

Pulling us on to become...the roar.

    We are history, making ourselves.

At times we all whimper when history roars on but forgotten moments have a way of returning.

    Brilliant last line, Alobar.

I should have taken more pictures, I should have kept I diary.

I should have held onto those whispers tighter.

I don't know why I didn't... I guess they didn't seem important at the time.

Hindsight is a gift we all crave at one time or another.

    I really did enjoy this.

I will not comment upon this poem other than to say I have read it many, many times and am still pondering the question, the haunting question it poses. Well done.

"the final turns of my lost memories". Excellent. I love this. Alzheimer's runs rampant in my family and I wonder when I'll go around the bend.

The title is prefect for the tone. Thumbs up and a star for you.

Not sure if this pertains, but I just went through about 20 old pics of my (deceased) dad and ... this poem just sort of "hit the spot" for me.
