Any thoughts on this piece?

Watching the Poets, Smiling

Young, youthful poets

arrogant like astronauts

rapping out rhymes

re-using rhythms

and afraid

afraid of absolutely nothing

I was that young once

I too had the strength to slay dragons

I love how such short verse gives such a big message.

Poetry is a guise... I bet you those young poets are not nearly as arrogant as their pen would have you believe...

What the hell is it with this "slaying Dragons" crap??!!

Don't attempt to battle a Dragon...no matter how much strength you think you have. The arrogance of youth is that they are afraid of nothing at a time when they have the most to fear.

I'll offer a matching "What the hell!" to slaying dragons...

I like the verse, though I agree that the fearlessness and arrogance of youth can be a folly, especially where it breeds a lack of respect for those aorund them.

    Watching the readers crying

    Alliterating arroganauts

    young like "yutes"

    crapping out crimes

    cre-using crampons

    to Cr-imb capsolutely Ca-nada

    I thunk in my yute

I too could take it trew.

    Great stuff

(I suspect, though, that beneath the bravado lurks an uncertain soul...well, that's my memory of myself when young!)

....do you need 'young' and 'youthful'? - to me they seem the same thing.

    young and sassy (?)

But that's the magic of words,

they don't care about the age of the vessel from whom they are sprung.

and, don't talk to me about age, anyhow!

But I loved this pen and it is true of the young, indeed.

I think it's more tenacity and yes, slaying dragons.

It envokes the wisdom of simplicity we learn in the mature stages of life. I salute you.
