An even bigger problem than last time. I need MAJOR help here!?

Earlier I had a virus problem. So I purchased a spyware program that inspects and deletes. One of the programs it picked up it wasn't quarantining properly. So I (being the IDIOT that I am) decide to manually delete the file. Now all that comes up when I log in is my desktop background. I wish I could give more detail (like file name, etc.) but I can't. I'm using another computer to post this. Someone please tell me what I did wrong and what I can do to fix it.

It sounds like the file you deleted wasn't a program, but your desktop folder. It stores all your shortcuts and user options. This folder is protected (in Vista) and the quarantine shouldn't work.

If the Windows button still works, use it to get to the restore center, and roll-back your system to before you erased the file.

It is possible some one hid a virus INSIDE that folder, but I think it's unlikely.

Spyware programs sometimes return a false positive. They work by trying to match a virus segment to all your files, if the segment is large enough to eliminate all similar non-virus programs, it would slow the system down to a crawl. They have a choice of giving false positives, or possibly missing a real one. A good anti-virus will use multiple short segments to verify the virus.

You should probably start fresh by doing a system recovery since it seems that the file you deleted was somehow linked of a part of your windows system file. Once you get your computer recovered to manufacturers default, buy Bit defender Internet security, around 70$ for two years which is a great antivirus software.
