why does the united states provide funding and military assitance to israel?

They are the only reliable asset we have in the middle east.

We also use them to do whats necessary, but unpalatable.

Like bombing nuclear facilities in Syria and Iran.

We can tut-tut and condemn in public, but be relieved in private, just like the rest of the world.

They are surrounded by Muslim countries that want to destroy Israel. Israel is God's chosen land and America is mostly Christian.

We are protecting God's land by helping Israel. Read the Book of Revelation in the Bible. It's all in there.

We helped put them there for a reason. They wanted to be there and we needed someone in the middle east to do the dirty work. Aren't we always trying to control who the leaders are there?

If Israel is invaded, there would be even more unrest in the Middle East then there is now. Giving money to Israel, allows for Israel to defend itself against countries that wish it to be destroyed.

Good question, it seems we butt our nose into a lot of other countrys' businesses. I say let them all fight their own battles. We should spend our money and military power on defense here.
