Mass and energy are inter convertible. According to Sir Stephen Hawking.... Big Bang was the start of our universe and so... beginning of time. Before big bang.. there was just enormous amount of energy .. a part of which got converted into mass at the time of big bang.

Hence before big bang there was just some kind of energy... so no questions of any shape.

Asking if the universe was flat before the Big Bang is like asking if I was fat in the 80's.

Doesn't there have to be matter in order for there to be energy? Well in any case, something had to be there before the big bang, and I would guess it was really flat, like a worm. Hell I don't know what shape the universe was, but I'm sure it had a shape.

I agree with Fafi B on this one, there was God before the universe. Anyway, Stephen Hawking was the physicist that proposed the Big Bang Theory? I didn't know that.

One theory is that the big bang started as a white hole, which is theoretically the exact opposite of a blackhole. White holes release matter, but that is just a theory. Whether correct or not, it is an interesting theory to ponder on at least.

the big bang created time, so it does not make sense to say "before". In fact the four dimensions we are familiar with (3 space and time) were all created then so before then there was no such thing as flat because that requires at least 2 of the space dimensions as well

before the big bang there was no universe to be flat

No one...repeat NO ONE...knows what was before the Big Bang, or even if there was any thing at all.

We have pretty well determined that the universe is now geometrically "flat," meaning that it will continue to expand indefinitely.

depends on what you belive. my answer goes with science. we have our flat little universe that has a membrane connected to it by string things . and our universe is in hyper space with an endless amount of other universes that are constantly bumping into eachother.when that happens our membrane (which holds the essential data and elements and whatnot for a new universe)collides with another membranes and they form a new membrane with our universes data and the data from other universes and it makes somehting completely new. an endless amount of big bangs

Well that is an excellent question glorlitchi 2.0 (i dont believe i spelled that right but oh well). I think that there was no universe only God. Yes, yes I said God. The universe did not exist so you cannot say if it was flat. For example, a fork-donkey does not existed so, you cannot say what it looks like. You can only leave it to the imagination.

No such thing as "before the big bang."
