How do you know if you are ready to teach?

Hello, I am thinking of applying for an adjunct faculty position but I don't think I have enough professional experience. How do you know if you will be able to productively teach? Thanks.

If you ever feel completely ready to teach, you are not.

Every start of the school year I cannot sleep for 2 days.

Also if you are hired you may be ready to teach, if not hired, ask why?

    As far a teaching well. P. P. P.

well, learn during working! u can save a lot of time. u may get fired or rejected if u dont have enough skills or experience but it is part of the training! i dont have enough knowledge or experience but i was hired to become a daycare teacher and after 3 months, i got rejected from the company for any reason. but felt quite angry and sad cause it happened all the sudden but at least i learnt something ! and as i have the 3 months experience, i was hired to become a kindergarten teacher and i believe that i can do better this time!

so, be more confident on yourself! good luck!

I don't think anyone ever feels completely prepared (there is always that one student who comes up with the stumpers...)

Anyway, if you don't feel like you have the experience, do apply anyway. Getting the interview experience will help you for your next job interview, if you don't get this one.

In the meantime: there is nothing wrong with gaining experience and doing a little good for someone while you're at it. Volunteer! You get the experience, and they can't complain you're doing something wrong because you're doing it for free.

Plus, volunteer work always looks good on a resume!

If you have a friend who is adjuncting in the same field, talk it over with him or her. Maybe you can guest lecture.

Plan an agenda. Then see if you're good enough by trying it out.
