53 and alone with eight grown kids?
Why can't they ever remember my birthday when I always remember theirs? I still feel lonely on birthdays and holidays when none of them show up or call and the only one that truly cares lives so far away in Florida. Am I being selfish?

No, you are not being selfish. Next time when a birthday comes up don't get any gift. And if they ask why then just say did you remember mine. I think what your kids are doing is so unfair. They will only have one mom in their lives and I pray for you that they smarten up. You should write to them and put on paper how you really feel. Let it out and show them what they are doing is making you so lonely and sad.

No. Your kids should be there for you. You were there for them when they needed you to be. Tell the one of your kids that stays in touch with the others how you feel and word will get around. They may just be so involved in their own lives that they don't realize you need them.
