Well the Exodus story isn't supported by the archeology so it probably never existed. Egyptians never kept large numbers of slaves.
But assuming that it did, the plans in the Bible sound a lot like a capacitor. It was big enough it could kill, and many of the effects are also consistent with electricity. That makes it a rather elaborate magic trick.

Hebrews 9:1 Then indeed, even the first covenant had ordinances of divine service and the earthly sanctuary. 2 For a tabernacle was prepared: the first part, in which was the lampstand, the table, and the showbread, which is called the sanctuary; 3 and behind the second veil, the part of the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of All, 4 which had the golden censer and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which were the golden pot that had the manna, Aaron's rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant; 5 and above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail.
It was a reminder of God's covenant with the people of Israel and sybolized His presence with them.

According to myth, the Ark of the Covenant was an ornate container in which were stored the tablets of the Ten Commandments and various other artifacts.

The Ark of the Covenant was a holy box that held the original tablets with the 10 Commandments and some manna along with other sacred Jewish thingamabobs.

Ark of the Covenant, it supposedly held the 10 commandments. You'd think something that was so important would never get lost.....

It is the "Ark of the Covenant". It held most precious Jewish artifacts.

The Ark holds the 10 commandments and it is here on earth someplace but no one knows where. But they speculate. God bless you.

I believe that the Most Holy Place of the Sanctuary pictures events that happened immediately after the crucifixion (death) of Jesus Christ.
Some people say that dead people get their final decision for their destiny after their passing away.
Two directions exist for them. They go either to God's blessed territory or to the hell.
Therefore, we may look at the Most Holy Place as a location, where they decided about Jesus's spirit.
The Chest
People may view the chest as a coffin in which a dead body is placed.
We do not have the possibility of seeing the spiritual world by fleshly eyes and therefore do not see the souls of dead people.
When people die, we see the body in a casket but know that the soul is not there.
A person who has passed away leaves the (spiritual) memory of his life in our world. This memory is usually recorded on papers as biography, or is spoken at his or her eulogy.
God has written the regulation for our life on two tablets, put in this Chest - the Ark.
We may conclude that the casket, with the writing inside, represent a dead man, who met the whole criteria of God's Law.
This writing in the chest is the main point of his biography.
The Bible names that chest also the Ark of the Covenant, which refers to the covenant (the contract) between God and His people.
* The old covenant was based on the written codes put in this Ark. Nevertheless, prophets in the Old Testament already spoke that God will make a new covenant (Jeremiah 31:33): "This is the covenant that I will make with house of Israel . . . 'I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts.'"
If God's covenant is written on the human heart, in the human body, we may also see a man's body who had these writing written also on his heart there.
* If one Ark of the Covenant is there, we should see also both covenants in it. Because it is well known that today the New Covenant exists since Jesus Christ died for human sins, we should see His offered life in this chest.
* Consequently that casket should refer to that changing. It is reasonable that our outlook on it is directed rather to the making of the New covenant - Jesus Christ's spirit than the souls judged by the written Law.
Two cherubs
If a jury is looking for a decision, a verdict should eventually come. We usually receive sentences in a court. Someone accuses us there and someone speaks in our favor.
Similarly, the Lord Jesus Christ had to be judged. We can see this pictured with the cherubs stationed at both ends of the cover.
"The cherubim are to have their wings spread upward, overshadowing the cover with them. The cherubim are to face each other, looking toward the cover" (Exodus 25:20).
(Notice: Moses did not give the size of them. Yet they could not be very big ones because Moses put them on Mercy Seat. However, Solomon later made them stand firmly beside the Ark and bigger ones (ten cubits) than Moses did (1 King 6:24-27).
People used to see angels without wings, as human beings. They also had problems to distinguish them from mortal men. For instance, look at Jacob's, Abraham's, Lot's life.
Therefore, wings may just mean a fierce (as wind) debate between angels over Jesus's death and His spirit's destiny.
We know that satan (a fallen angel) accuses people and the Lord Jesus Christ speaks in our favor. Now we have Him as in "heavenly court."
Therefore, we should look for someone else.
The archangel Gabriel told Mary about Jesus' birth. Gabriel spoke in the people's favor as the Bible records it.
If satan spoke against Jesus Christ and Gabriel in His favor, they could be the cherubs at the ends of the cover (Zechariah 3:1).
We know that Jesus Christ did not have to die. He was without any sin. Neither the inherited sin from Adam could be found on Him. He could end the awful torture by destroying everyone being against Him (Matthew 26:53).
However, Jesus Christ did not regard His own righteousness but, He took the fate of human beings in His hands.
Everyone has the right to defeat himself against illegal matters raised against him.
Satan had calculated this and hoped that Jesus would defeat Himself by escaping the inhuman torture of His crucifixion. (In this way the case of human beings could be lost forever if Jesus Christ had saved Himself from torture and death.)
If a person does not defend himself against the accuser, it is considered as his amend.
Jesus did not defeat Himself because, He wanted to be counted as a sinner.
Therefore, we say: Jesus Christ died for our sins.
Zechariah speaks in (Zech.3: 3) that Jesus stood before God dressed in filthy clothes. We used to say in our sermons on a behalf of us that Jesus Christ wore (filthy clothes) our human's uncleanness, our sins, and brought them to heaven before God the Father.
The Atonement Cover
Gabriel ( I suppose), who stays before God's throne, spoke in favor of Jesus's spirit. He asked God for God's mercy, which Moses
