Should Richie Garcia have been fired after the call that gave Jeter the homerun when the fan interfered with?

the ball?

Update:

The Jeffrey Maier incident, he should have. He was looking right at it!

He should have been. I don't agree just because they were in New York. His job was to make the correct call and he didn't. Also look at how smug the bratty little bastard child was. He knew excatly what he was doing he should have been thrown out and Jeter should have been called out.

I remember that call. After he saw the replay from the centerfield camera after the game, Richie stated that he would have awarded a 2 base hit to Jeter because the ball was already beyond Tarasco when Maier touched it.

Richie was one of the most respected umpires in his time and he is currently an umpire supervisor for MLB.

  • He knew where he was (Yankee Stadium). He would have gotten booed and he was under pressure by the fans.

Ultimately He conceded to the fans. Which should not be done by a Umpire.
