Disney Closing Pleasure Island Clubs - Good? Bad? Do you care?
Disney is closing the night clubs at Pleasure Island and will replace them with Shopping and Restaurants.

I am not surprised. When I was there in March the clubs were not all that crowded, but there were a ton of people with kids walking around and past the clubs. Disney wants to keep the families happy, so they are getting rid of the clubs for more family friendly venues, thus more revenue. Disney is not a place to wait and see, if something is not working, they are ready to replace at a moments notice. Personally I think it is a good thing, there have been more and more problems over near Pleasure Island. Once the alcohol is taken out of the equasion, the problems will more than likely get better.

I think it stinks... I live in Florida, (about an hour away from disney, but its still close enough that when we do a girls night out or something its nothing to drive to PI) and Downtown Disney is one of our regular places to go... we regularly stay in hotels down there, and will go to Downtown Disney, eat dinner at one of the resturants, catch a movie, go back to our hotel, get ready then go out dancing/drinking the whole night. Its convenient because you can use the disney bus so you don't have to worry about a D.D... its a hell of a lot safer than going to Ybor or Church street. Theres security, and theres absolutely nothing to worry about when it comes to underage drinking because 21 year olds aren't allowed in. Its sad that they are taking away a safe place that adults could go to dance and drink and hang out... just to put in more shops to make it more "family oriented". Whats that mean? People are more likely to spend money if they aren't around a bunch of people dancing and stuff? Its just crazy that they are closing it. I'm gonna have to plan a girls night really soon before it closes in September!

It is so sad! I loved Mannequins and Motion!!!!
I did see last year they had a closed area because they are building new restaurants and shops, and a dinosaur thing.
I do understand that Disney is more family oriented, but it was a very good way for adults to have fun at night after going to the theme parks. Plus a lot of locals go to PI!!!!
I am going to miss it, but hoping they don't close.

I had my 21st birthday there. It was so much fun. I love the rotating dance floor at mannequins. But, It is getting old and I really think that Universal City Walk took the night life business away. I will miss it but I really think Universal has the night life spot now. Disney will make more money with shopping and restaurants.
The people movers at City Walk are great too after a night of dancing and a few drinks.

Hopefully it will be a good change. I havent been there in years other than to pass thru with the kids so maybe Disney sees the lost revenue

Walt Disney isolated the Magic Kingdom to avoid the Mardi Gras element Eisner welcomed in with Pleasure Island.Florida never advanced much from their racist past and will fall back soon due to economic and social chaos.Look at how hurricane Katrina threw a city back into the banjo south.Already in Tampa racists have the approval of the governor to fly a giant confederate flag.Disney timeshares appeal to people who want to vacation in a resort and not see outside the walls.America has secure green zones in Iraq surrounded by chaos. The latest thing is disaster capitalism and Disney is in place for growth.

I think the change is going to be good. I liked the clubs but mostly the comedy club. The dance clubs were a bit disappointing and cheesy in my opinion, bad tunes and watered down drinks.
