Tegretol (carbamazepine) is the best medication to treat Trigeminal Neuralgia as far as I know. They usually start at a low dose and increase the dose daily until the pain goes away. I believe they keep you on a maintenance dose for a few days and then stop it. There may be side effects associated with Tegretol though, such as drowsiness, dizziness and nausea.
