word describing a person or group who believes that government solutions for societies problems are best?

I am looking for a word to replace "Liberal" to describe politicos who think and promise that the government will solve whatever problems or issues we have.

A statist - a person who believes in the inherent value of the state in bettering our lives. I also like 'nanny-stater,' but that's a derogatory term not suitable for an academic paper. (It's fun in a debate, though.)

How about "non-existent", since no one actually promises that the government "will solve whatever problems or issues we have".

(so, they desire the gov't to do it for them)
