What's wrong with my dog?

My dog went to the vet about a week and a half ago, maybe 2 weeks ago. He went for a routine check up, there wasn't anything wrong with him. So the vet gave him the shots that he needed, and said that he was healthy otherwise.

Anyway, his problem is that the spot at which he got one of his shots is shedding hair and skin. In a freakish amount. It's about 2cm in length in about a circle, and it's almost like it's the top layer of his skin coming off. And it's all attached, just coming off that way. Sorry if that sounds gross, or if I'm not explaining it well.

Anyway, I guess my question is, what is causing this and could it be serious?

His shots were for deworming, and I forget what the other one was. He's not acting like he's in pain. There's no bleeding, so I really don't know. But because it's in the are that he got his shot, I'm assuming it's that.

I would take him to the vet, but it's saturday, so the vet isn't open until Monday.

I suggest the reaction to the vet's shots is fairly normal. I am guessing the shots were for his annual immunisation for parvo, kennel cough and heartworm etc. and injected up between his shoulders.

The injected medication is very slow to disperse or circulate through his body and often forms a lump where the injection was and may take a few weeks to disperse.

If your pup is not distressed or scratching at the spot don't panic, things should be fine.

If the lump is still there after a few more weeks, or the fur hasn't grown back take him to the vet again.

i would keep him well hydrated(full bowl of water at all times) feed him as usual and early monday morning as the vet opens up call him and tell him of this problem doesnt sound like anything serious maybe a reaction to the shot(allergic) good luck

  • He could have been alergic to it. Try going to your local pet store tomorrow and picking up a cream that has tea tree oil in it, or some bag balm. You should call your vet first thing on Monday though to make sure its nothing serious.
