My basement is roughed in for a toilet and sink can we?

Put in a shower, too? Or is that a lot of work to add the additional plumbing and drain for the shower??

We already have two showers so it's not neccesary but the amount of space we will have once we put up walls and such, is more than enough for an additional shower and ample counter space. It'd be nice.

Also, is it generally expensive to do so?? The bathroom will be as basic and inexpensive as possible while still being nice - so if it costs too much to put in a shower, I won't bother.

Update:

$2000 isn't bad at all, considering we can do it all ourselves aside from the plumbing. Saves us on labour, for sure.

I had a bathroom remodeled in a studio that was on a slab. The plumbing went through the slab and I wanted to change the orientation of the tub, toilet, and sink around. A plumber did the work, and the extra work of breaking out the concrete and rearranging the pipes cost an extra $1000 or so. As long as you have the main drain and water pipes roughed in, it shouldn't be a problem to add a shower. You do have extra cost for the shower pan and tile work, if that's what you choose to do with it. I would guess the whole job would cost you at least an additional $2000. You'll more than get that back if you ever sell the place. Nothing adds more value to a house than adding bedrooms and bathrooms, or upgrading a kitchen.

  • The plumbing for the shower drain isn't already in. That one could get real expensive. Running plumbing to for the water supply shouldn't be too bad. You should check with local plumbers & see what they would charge. They usually give free estimates.
