For quality of life and safety it is hard to beat Atlantic Canada. You will also find excellent schools, and career opportunities, depending on your skills and qualifications. St. John's, Newfoundland is booming right now because of the offshore oil industry, so if you have skills that are needed in that industry you would easily get a job. It is also a neat place to live.

For me it's a toss up between Calgary and Regina.

Calgary has a fast growing economy so jobs are easy to come by. The education system is one of the best and the university there is growing and taking part in new innovations all the time. Safety depends on which parts of the cities you're in. Same as any other place there are good and bad neighbourhoods. The quality of life is excellent, with many parks and green spaces for outdoor activities, a relatively mild climate, its less than an hour to the mountains and there's always some thing to do. The downsides are real estate is expensive, rents are outrageously high in some areas, as are house prices and the city is large and can be difficult to get around sometimes.

Regina's economy is also growing, there's plans for revitalizing the entire city. The education system is good, university tuition fees are some of the lowest in the country and they have highly qualified professors. Crime rates have gone down in recent years, and it's as safe a place to live as anywhere else. There are good and bad parts of town, but for the most part it is safe. There is a good police force and the RCMP training facility is here. The quality of life is excellent, there is a 5% PST but there is fully funded health care and other social services programs. Real estate and rent prices are reasonable, you can still own a good sized house under $300K in a good neighbourhood. It's largely a government city being the capital of Saskatchewan. The downsides are some think it's a little small and the weather extremes (it can go anywhere between -50 in the winter to 50 in the summer).

Source(s): I've lived in both cities.

It relies upon on what you're searching for: subculture and leisure: Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver high quality of life/low fee of living: Saskatoon, pink Deer sturdy stability of each and everything: Edmonton beautiful atmosphere: Vancouver, Halifax, Calgary Calgary might desire to be prevented suitable now simply by fact the fee of living is sky extreme, infrastructure hasn't stored up with growth and the housing bubble is going to burst demanding. in simple terms my critiques.

The best city to live in in Canada is Courtenay, B.C. That is not saying it is the best place to find a job, but it is within one hour of Nanaimo, a bigger city with plenty of jobs. Courtenay is a diamond in the rough with affordable housing and an ever-growing population. One has only to go to a viewpoint in the city (big town) to see the future prospect of growth, with vast level areas stretching forever (it seems).

Check it out for yourself. I live in Japan but have bought a house there for my future return. That was after spending around five years traveling around B.C. on my vacations searching for the "perfect spot" to settle down with my family. What a place. My wife and I fell in love with it the first time we went there. Good luck! http://www.comox-valley-tourism.ca/

    Halifax NS

NIce place, smallish population, government town, has a university and college, reasonably safe (it is a city after all), and I think a good quality of life.
