After going piddle, my dog sits on the floor and drags her bum...anal sacs?

So she hardly goes to the washroom. She never wants to go outside, we just figure becuase it is cold. I'm wondering if she may have an infection from holding it so long or is the bum dragging on floor a sign of filled anal sacs?

Im taking her to the vet today but wanted to know your opinions.

Update:

Just came back from the vet. She has an infection in the anal sacs....she is on antibiotics for 7 days. The vet did not want to squeeze the fluid out as my dog was in so much pain. Going back this week to get her sacs done.

LOL......yep it is the fluid filled anal sacs. They have to be sqeezed from time to time, usually the groomer will do it when they are bathed, but if your dog does not get groomed you should do it yourself. Dogs rub on the floor to try to excrete it themselves, (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't). You have to lift the tail (wear rubber gloves) (and have the dog in a tub) and squeeze the sides of the anus (left and right) with gentle pressure, pressing and releasing until the liquid is expelled. This might get some getting used to, and yes it's gross, but it has to be done.

Sometimes dogs also do this if they have some left over poo on their backside, not a very pleasent thing for our rugs, but since they can't use toilet paper.......well..........have a good cleaning spray on hand.

Even if it's cold out your dog should still want to go outside to go to the bathroom outside. Are you saying that your dog is peeing, but not pooping? How long has it been? We need these answers to help, and you need to talk to your vet if the dog has not been pooping for more than 2 days.

(He could be constipated, or it could be a blockage)

    Good luck

The anal glands are traditionally clogged and have got to be expelled. Either cross to a groomer or the vet as this is a lovely gross process. If that does not aid, difference the nutrition of the puppy to well meals (steer clear of some thing you'll discover on the grocery retailer). Here is a record of well meals: - Wellness - Innova/Evo - Natural Balance - Nature's Variety - Eagle Pack - Canidae

my dog sandy did the same thing and i took her to the vet. the vet expressed her anal sacs and told me to add some fiber to her food so her poo would be stiffer(that helps them empty their anal sacs naturally).she didn't have an infection or anything but the vet said sometimes when they get a blockage they could get an infection. i noticed my girl skooching again so i have to take her to the vet again!! oh the perils of owning a pooch!lol! this time im going to get my vet to show me how to do it myself so i dont have to pay my vet $60+ ($50 odd for the appiontment and $10 for my vet to "stick her finger in sandys bum!lol!)every time i need her anal sacs expressed! i dont know how much your vet will charge but if i were you i would ask them to show you how to do it so you could save money later down the road! *wish i had of asked the first time!*

It could be compacted or infected anal sacs. However, she could just have a dirty rear end and need a bath. Worms are another possbility.
