Why are so many, especially religious people so homophobic?

Question

Matt. 19:12 (This is Jesus talking presumably) "For there are SOME eunuchs , which were so BORN from their mother's womb:  and there are SOME eunuchs, which were MADE eunuchs of men:  and THERE BE eunuchs, which have MADE THEMSELVES eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake.  He that is able to receive it, let him receive it."

Eunuchs are described in the dictionary as "effeminated men".  In which are included Homosexuals, Transsexuals, Bi-sexuals, and Transvestites even Lesbians.

God said "Love thy neighbor as you would love thyself."  He didn't characterize which neighbors we are to love, but I presume He meant all neighbors so why don't we "religious people" known as Christian's live and let live?

WHEN WILL THE PERSECUTION OF GAY FOLK END?????  EVER?????

The modern bible is a misinterpitation of the past bible, in fact the only thing against GLBTs in the origional bible was that men of god were not sup;posed to sleep with male prostitutes. Origionaly the bible never said one word against us(GLBTs)

That makes no sense... effeminate men does not necessary include one single one of those... and how the hell could it include all of them?

Religions will give up on hating gays eventually... kind of like how they gave up on punishing left-handed people.

I don't know. I have a hard time even identifying why homophobic people are homophobic. I'm in high school, and there's this weird stigma about being gay. I have a lot of trouble understanding it.

Really, I could care less about people's sexual orientation when looking at them in the context of friends or whatever.

please dont let a few hardcore christians represent all of us. i am christian, i have very strong faith in god. but i have no negative feelings toward homosexuality. 

i think people take the bible too literally when its really just a bunch of symbolism that can be interpreted in so many ways. homophobes read the bible and try to interpret it in a way that is beneficial for them. i ve read the bible and i haven't read anything that leads me to believe that homosexuality is wrong.

 a huge majority of christians i know do not hate gay people...so dont group me in with all those hardcore christians.
