Toddler has asthma....which activities would be best for him? Also potty training question....?

My toddler has asthma and we would like him to be active. What is the best sport for toddlers that are not too demanding that an asthmatic child would be able to do??

Also, he will use the potty when at daycare, but at home he refuses...solutions???

The asthma thing, probably anything that's not outdoors as much. So probably basketball, if they have that for toddlers. The pollens and grasses tend to activate the asthma, that's why.

At home, potty training - have you tried a reward system? Make a chart with happy faces and give him a little toy when he's filled an entire week. Something small though. But that he'll want to earn.

I would try diffrent acctivities to see if it sets off his asthma and if it does then I wouldnt do it. For my daughter the weather changes set her off not so much with beig active so I guess it depends on the child.

As for the potty training all I can think of is let him walk around in his underwere fro a while and once he uses it on his self a couple of time then hopfully he will get the point. Or try to put him on there more often

Is there a reward that he gets at daycare for using the potty? IF so then try the same system. What ever works.

I feel your pain. I've had asthma for 14 years now and have seen several doctors. The truth is, there is no known cure for asthma at the moment. But the symptoms can be prevented. It really depends on what causes your brother's asthma. Mine is usually dust and hot weather. But I think the universal method is using the control inhaler.

I cured my Asthma the natural way?

Kids with asthma can do any activity that kids without asthma can do. Please don't hold your child back just because of asthma.

My son skis, does BMX racing, hiking, etc. Sometimes kids may need to take their inhaler before they exercise in order to keep their lungs clear but other then that, if their asthma is under control, it should not rule their lives.

If the asthma isn't under control then you need to see your dr or a specialist until you get it under control.

I have a 28 year old son, who was a severe asthmatic all his young years.

First, there are a few types of asthma. Some asthma is brought on by physical excertion, other asthma is brought on by allergens (my sons).

It depends on what sets it off, but please, allow him to live as normally as possible. If you find he can't run without an attack, don't let him run! But there are excercizes he can do to increase lung capacity. Talk to his allergist.

depends what triggers his asthma. if his asthma tends to be exercise-induced, i'd talk to his doctor about safe ways to stay healthy. some kids for whom exercise is a trigger just use their inhalers or nebulizer before they exercise and then go do whatever it is they want to do. (but of course check with your doctor).

if his triggers are outdoor allergens, like pollen, consider indoor options like basketball, or swimming in an indoor pool, etc.

but if his triggers are other things, like cats, or foods, or viruses, he can do any kind of exercise he wants. just make sure he always has an inhaler/ nebulizer nearby. my daughter has severe asthma but it's only triggered by viruses or cats. she is extremely active in all kinds of activities. the only time she can't do sports-type things is when an asthma attack has already started.
