How is a 12 string guitar tuned?
e-a-d-g-b-e for a 6 string i know, but but what is the tuning for, say, the lowest "pair"? what i mean is, is it just e-e a-a d-d g-g b-b e-e just octives apart?

First answerer is incorrect. If you try to tune it that way you'll break strings.
The lower four string pairs are tuned in pairs one octave apart, but the higher two pairs (B and high E) are tuned in pairs to the same note.

It's tuned the same way as a 6 string, but tune each string separately. It will take some time to get used to, and I do suggest an electronic tuner, if you don't have a great ear. Start with the low E, and tune the thinnest string first, then the thicker one. Only hit one string at a time. If you need help, my email is open. This may help also.

Tunes the same as a 6 string. E A D G B E, the small string next to each is the same note just a different pitch. Play on! The top E B stings are the same pitch.

The high E(thin one on the bottom) and the b string are two of the same, the other ones E,A,D,G are one normal one and one tuned an octave higher.
