my cat likes to lick and and chew on plastic bags, - any type of plastic bags?
she makes a point of finding anything I have laying around that is covered in plastic - like magazines, etc., or plastic bags. I try to keep them away from her. But I want to know if she is lacking something nutritionally that makes her do this.
I feed her dry food all the time because she won't eat the wet food. I usually buy what is on sale. This month it is Purina One. She is 6 yrs old and has done this since I got her as a kitten.
any ideas?

please, please, please do not let your cat have any plastic bags. eating them will cause a potentialy fatal blockage in the digestive system, if they don't choke on the plastic while swallowing them. another thing is that they can get their heads caught in the handles of the bags and strangle (you wouldn't let your baby have plastic would you), same difference.
if you are concerned about the food, go online and research the ingredents in your cat food. buy the absolute best you can afford. supermarket food is not the best. if it lists corn, or another grain first, buy another brand, one with meat or meat meal listed first. protien can come from many sources including shoe leather, feathers, and the melamine used in the china pet food.
finally, if you want to feed cat grass, sprout oats, rye or whole wheat grains. much cheaper than buying "cat grass"
hope this helps.

It sounds like there are 2 issues going on.
1. Cats like to chew on plastic bags. There's something in them that many cats like. Just do your best to keep all plastic out of your cat's reach.
2. It sounds like you cat needs a better diet. Dry food is no good: too much corn. Also, get her on a steady diet. Buying what's on sale isn't healthy. I'd recommend going to a speciality pet supply store that stocks fancier foods. Most of the big brands are terrible; small brands (usually made in small batches) are usually better.

Some cats just seem to really like the taste, or maybe it's the texture or sound the bags make. It doesn't have anything to do with nutrition, and if you're going to go with a supermarket brand, Purina One is one of the better choices on the shelf. I'd stay away from anything cheaper than that.
Only keep being careful to prevent her swallowing any!

Don't worry, this has nothing to do with nutrition! Cats always get amused by plastic bags it's probably the plastic bag sound. I have 4 cats and they love plastic bags. Anything that moves, makes sound. Just try to put them away, because they can choke in the handle or in the bag, I read that somewhere. But if you there to watch it, it's fine. Don't let cat eat newspaper because of the ink. One of my cat likes to chew on cardbox. Don't worry your cat is fine.

your cat has Pica the unusual desire to chew or eat ineatible objects. My cat Remy had the same problem, just keep the bags etc up and away so that medical emergencies don't arise from having a plastic bag in the intestines.

Can't do anything about it.
I agree with 2nd reply,.. either texture, sound or non-taste?
I have a cat the same way,.. he was an orig. feral kitten, now 4-5 yrs. old and fed the best!
[assortment of quality dry, can and fresh foods, incl. raw]
Anytime I hear "rattling" I know he's found a plast. bag.
Nothing to do with diet,.. just a peculiarity with some cats.
My other cats ignore plast. bags, just PLAY in brown paper bags!

best idea ...... keep all plastic bags and the like picked up and disposed of properly and you won't have this problem.
There, now isn't that a simple solution/

Buy potted cat grass. You can get it in different varities to make sure that you get whatever nutrients your cat is lacking. Cats will chew on and eat the grass and it supplies needed nutrients to them.
Here are a couple of ideas.......
