Fear is the tool used to keep people from questioning their religion and defying it. It's worked marvelously... look at how scared people are of going to hell, how they are convinced that they were born sinners and need god to save them... all fear-induced ideas. Even some Pagans have a fear element, with the rede and the "harm none" garbage. You cannot realistically live your life causing no harm to anyone, ever. We all cause harm inadvertently, whether we want to or not, and the idea that defending yourself, retaliating when you've been wronged, or restoring balance to your life is somehow going to boomerang back to you as "bad karma" is just another scare tactic.

Humans, have always attached "fear" in their various pursuits of various religions...

If humanity could make the emotional jump from just following a religion to following a spiritual sense of God, humankind could do miraculous things--stop the endless wars, provide food, water, shelter, a decent living for EVERY citizen of earth, etc.

fear has always been used to keep people in line and to keep them from doing what is best for them.. Any God that would want me to worship said God would not rule by fear. Fear is a manmade attribute that doesnot contribute to the evolution of mankind. Except to look both ways before crossing the street

Most of what she bases her argument about "fear" being the dominant factor of religion that influences behavior has it's roots in uneducated people believing in pagan gods of nature as those who control our lives. Although this type of pagan belief remains popular in many parts of the world, much of the educated world places their religious beliefs in a God who judges us by our moral behavior while on this earth. And whether we're willing to accept it or not, we are in control of our own behavior. We make the choices. No one makes them for us.

that type of fear isnt in religion... fearing God means knowing he is God and no one else is and worshipping only Him and not ourselves or our creations.

so for your question... the world is right where its supposed to be... here.

The same place those of us who don't buy into the fear are--happier, saner, more successful, more fulfilled.

My opinion is that people try to generalise each other way too much.
