Can you put shingles over brick?

Or do you have to remove the brick? This is a small area of brick "facade" on just the front of the first floor of a small two story home. The rest of the home is vinyl siding, which is to be replaced with shingles or clapboard.

You could, but why? Can the brick facade be re-pointed?, or the the brick that bad? To do it properly, remove the brick, if that is truly your desire, insulate the exterior area with foam board and place runners for nailing shingles.

don'ty waste your time and effort removing the bricks, you may want them again one day.

In the interium, place furring strips on the wall (glued) if you know where the ends are going to be placed and you know what the weather is (inches); or if not, place a sheet of 3/4 affixed with liquid nails and slap on the shingles willie-nellie and save a lot of time all around.

first you need to take some siding off to see how thick your fake brick is. it should be same underneath as the siding, if so remove and put what you want in its place.

You can attach furrowing strips to the brick and then put up shingles.
