Computer running slow?
I have read all the other inquiries here and have tried all of them. My computer started running slower about a month ago and I ran spysweeper and antivirus to check it out. Nothing came up. Then I purchased RegCure which showed I had several errors and it "repaired" them. Still slow. After exhausting every fix I could find, I was advised it was probably a corruct hard drive and I should reinstall everything. After saving everything I could, I did a full system recovery and reloaded only the necessary componets before trying it again. Same result. Still slow. Should I do a full recovery again? Is it likely to help? What could the problem possibly be?
I don't have games or much software and I have done a defrag more than once and all other suggestions about spyware & viruses, no luck. Start up is not the problem, opening pages, e-mails and attachements is the problem.

Do you have any Norton software installed on your computer? It may be a bit of a long shot, but I recently encountered two situations where the clients computers were slowed down to the point of being nearly unusable. After much trial and error, I uninstalled Norton system works and Norton Anti-virus, and in both cases there was a great improvement in speed.
I know you have tried a lot of things to fix your slow computer, but please have a look at the following info I have put together, it just may help:
A slow computer can be caused by many things, but there are a few key areas you can easily work on yourself to speed your computer up. To start, make sure you have enough memory (RAM) installed to run Windows and all of your applications correctly. I made a step-by-step guide to help you determine how much memory you have installed, and how to upgrade it if necessary:

Once you know your RAM is up to snuff, you need to make sure there are no unwanted programs eating up your computer’s resources and memory. Spyware, Adware and Malware can all cause problems on your computer, and need to be removed. To learn the difference between the three, and how to clean them off of your computer, see my anti-spyware guide here:
http://www.fix-my-slow-computer.com/spyware-check....
Now that your computer is free of spyware, you need to make sure there are no viruses hiding in the system. Before you worry about removing viruses, you should take a moment to learn exactly what they are, and what ill effects they can have on your computer:
http://www.fix-my-slow-computer.com/virus-check.ht...
Most computers come with a virus program installed, but they are often times a 30-90 trial of the program. Make sure you get a full version of one of the popular programs, and keep it updated and run scans on a regular basis.
After you know your computer is clean, you should clean and defrag your hard drive(s):
http://www.fix-my-slow-computer.com/clean-your-har...
Once that is done, you need to check and clean your computer’s registry:
http://www.fix-my-slow-computer.com/clean-registry...
The few simple steps above are pretty much exactly what large office supply chain stores, major electronics retailers and local computer shops do when they charge you $100 and up to clean and maintain your computer. Follow my advice and do it yourself for free, both your computer and wallet will be happier.

download and run Advanced Windows Care it's free and has no spy or adware also download and run Code Stuff Starter and uncheck everything that you don't need to start everything if you don't use the program uninstall it you can always install it at a later time if you really need it. the larger programs that you use more often should be installed first so that they get installed towards the front of the drive which is faster and access is quicker do this and then run the defrag to align your programs for even faster access.
be carefull using these quick fix and speed up programs as they can do more harm than good also go to Pc Pit Stop dot com and run a full test this place is free also but you do have to sign up and they can help a bunch also especially in your start ups

I guess no one bothered to ask if you had a ton of software loading on startup huh? Or maybe you thought you could run 10 applications that when running use 258 megs of ram and you only have 256? You probably have crap like quicktime, winzip, god knows what else that takes it upon itself to load on startup after its installed...(peeves me to no end). Type msconfig in your run box and hit enter, open the start tab and uncheck some of that bunk. Remove anything from the startup folder you dont use. I usually dont run anything in it myself.
HeyHey, go bale some hay! Its comments like yours that create more problems for people!

I'd look at the programs running at startup.
I'll tell you what to look for...
Move all entries out of the startUp folder in your start menu.
Go to Start / Run / SysEdit.exe and remove entries for run or load from the win.ini or the the system.ini
Go to start / Run / RegEdit.exe and do an "export" (and then delete) of
HKLM_LOCAL_Machine\
software\
Microsoft\
Windows\
current Version\
Run\
check the Runservices too in this hive.
(while you're at it, - go check HKLM_CurrentUser for the same hive.
Take this stuff out, - with the ability to add it back in, - and see how much faster your computer runs. Go to google and do searches on all 'funky' names, to see if any look like a virus.
