So, what internet security puts the least drag on your computer's system?

A hardware firewall puts the least amount of load on your PC.

Don't install Norton's or any of that stuff, it will just slow you down like crazy and is nearly impossible to root out if you ever want to get rid of it.

Here is what i do...and i have not had any issues in years:

-use a hardware firewall. If you are on a high speed connection simply find yourself a good brand name router.

Because of this you can remove zonealarm

( a great program if you cannot use a hardware firewall btw...i am not dissing zone alarm, its the best alternative to using a hardware fire wall.)

-Run avg from http://grisoft.com./ Its a good program, just make sure you schedule automatic updates and automatic scans in. (if you really like the free version, consider upgrading)

-Once per month run adaware and spybot to remove any clutter. Don't let either one start up automatically .

-Lastly use your browsers security settings effectively. Make sure its at least set to medium security. ad trusted sites and block bad sites.

Stay away from Norton for sure. I was using ZoneAlarm firewall and antivirus for awhile, I thought it was pretty good, but now they seem to be having issues. I couldn't get the latest version to work after 10 hours of trying, so i gave them the boot. Now I'm using OutPost Firewall, it works great. It comes with integrated anti-spyware. For your anti-virus i would recommend NOD32, it loads quickly, uses little resources, updates several times daily, and it doesn't just detect known viruses, it also looks for virus-like activity. Hands down the best anti-virus out there.

MacAfee, but you need to remove Trendcillin if you have it built into your programs, otherwise it will clash and MacAfee will not work correctly. Add to that Adaware to run checks on your own for any spyware, and it seems to work like a charm. You can download Adaware for free at www.downloads.com. I've never had any troubles.

Personally I would prefer Norton anti-virus but it slows down your computer a lot. You can get a free version of Avg anti virus that works great and does not slow down your computer at www.download.com

I haven't had any issues with McAfee on my computers. Steer clear of Nortons which is a real resource hog.
