Is it acceptable to wear a little black dress to a wedding?

The wedding is in June in St. Thomas (US Virgin Islands). Or if I did wear a black dress should I wear maybe a little jacket with it? Help!

Strictly speaking, it is considered gauche to wear black to a wedding. A wedding is a happy occasion and anything that smacks of a funeral is to be avoided. It is also tacky to wear an all-white dress, as that is reserved for the bride. However, times have changed and the rules have loosened. If this is a laid-back couple, you can get away with it, especially if you pair it with a jacket or bolero in a different color. Even some colorful jewelry will help.

flow for it! i'm wearing a "little black gown" to a semi-formal evening wedding ceremony in some weeks. Mine has some blue in it, yet i imagine in case you employ a brightly colored necklace to boot as a magnificent scarf or something (I actually have a blue scarf i'd be wearing) then which could be effective. Black became truly taboo for a wedding ceremony, yet now truly some human beings placed on black to a wedding ceremony and really have the bride's maids dressed all in black! i have been to three weddings like that.

I think it is quite acceptable, and things are more relaxed in the islands, at any rate. Add a great string of pearls or some gold jewery. Pull a hibiscus blossom off a tree and wear it in your hair. Jacket very optional. I wouldn't.

Yes, a black dress is fine. If the dress is very bare, you should wear a jacket or a stole.

Thats fine as long as it's not like a "slutty" type of dress..you can really wear anything to a wedding..and a little black dress sounds cute!!

consider the weather. my guess is if its in june in the virgin islands its going to be hot. the little black dress might be acceptable, but the jacket might result in you being very warm.

I agree with Tapioca. Also, if the wedding is in the Caribbean, ask the couple if there is a theme (i.e. maybe guests should be wearing light or tropical colors and black would be an eyesore).

i think a little black dress is always good. You can make it look a little more summary by wearing colorful shoes or maybe gold or silver and by adding different accesories. Have fun !!

well depends on who your wedding couple are, if they're the laid back jokey type and the dress looks nice then yes.

but i think you should wear it anyway i've been to two weddings and wore black dresses for both and no one said anything!

    ^^
