Can anyone help fix a leaky tap?

well a solid metal washer could be your problem... try going to the hardware store and buying a 40 cent rubber gasket to put between the washer and the faucet... it is supposed to be there but is probably not.

Turn off your water at the main stop tap and open all the taps upstairs and down for the tap that is leakingIf its the cold tap that is leaking, then popen all the cold taps, and vice versa. Next remove the cap on top of the tap , then unscrew the top and remove. Get the right size spanner and unscrew the tap body and remove.Make sure there is no grit inside the tap body or on the washer in the tap body. Take tap body to ironmongers amd ask for new tap washers. Fit tap washer replace tap bodt. Close taps upstairs and down and turn on cold water main. Open tap that was leaking and let air out of tap. Do the same upstairs. Job done!!

Shut the water off to the tap. Then open the tap wide open, take the handle off if you can, then unscrew the cartridge and take it to a home repair store, Lowe's, Home depot, etc. Then match it up with a new one. Ask some one in plumbing to give you some assistance in the selection.

It could also be that the rubber washer is completely missing. Maybe the screw that holds it has disintegrated.

solid metal washer does not nessicarily mean no leaks. usually what causes a leaky faucet is people turning the valve too far when they turn it off. i suggest getting a kit of rubber "o" rings at any hardware stor . cut your water off. unscrew your valve and replace. been there done that!! too many times.

"as that's solid metal." Yup thats the problem. That solid metal valve stem should have a rubber washer between it and the valve seat.

if its a washerless brand.. there sure are washers in there. give a link to your faucet or model number/brand/type
