OK after all the uninformed replies from people who have never been to Pakistan and all they know about the country comes from what they see on the telly every evening, not a good source isn't it?

So is it safe? Well, firstly, it is not a country geared up for tourism so don't expect the infrastructure to be tourist friendly. But as far as safety is concerned, it is no more unsafe than downtown Manhattan or London (I have lived in both these giants so I am talking from experience). So if you can stand Manhattan and London, you will be fine with the most unsafe (better call it turbulent) city in Pakistan, which happens to be Karachi down south.

As for the north, it is as safe as a house, especially Lahore and Islamabad. The cities are modern with every facility you, as a tourist, may require. However, the trip can really become great if you are someones guest. One thing I can assure you is that people in Punjab will be more hospitable than any lot in Europe or North America. Just don't mind dazzled looks, the public is not used to seeing so much foreigner, but things are changing. So by all means, fly down and you will enjoy.

Places to visit: The historical and vibrant city of Lahore (must-visit if you are a food-lover), the modern and quiet capital Islamabad, the tourist spot up the mountains, such as Murree, Bhurban (theres a 5* hotel here within 90 minutes drive of Islamabad), Nathiagali and even further depending on the time you have available.

In short, I suggest you ask people who have been to Pakistan and had the same fear as you before going. Just asking a bunch of people on the net won't give you the right picture. Any questions, you can email me at tayyab_g@yahoo.co.uk

    Good Luck!

I would say it is not safe to go to Pakistan. My grandma went to Egypt and she said the whole Middle East is not a safe place to be, especially now, but she went about 30 years ago.

Personally, I wouldn't want to travel any where near the middle east.
