This would depend on your faith and the work. Each faith may have a different connection for a given general work. Even something that was painted for one reason for a group a person in an other group may get a different meaning for it. A basic triad for instance could represent the "holy trinity of father, son and ghost" or it can be the three graces or the three phases of women hood child, maid and crone.
