    Manhattan

    2 ounces Rye Whiskey

    ounce Sweet Vermouth

    3 dashes Bitters

Stir and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry.

    A variation:

    1. use american rye whiskey. 2. canadian 'rye' whisky is not the same. 3. never use cherry syrup from cherry jars. 4. if you don't like straight whisky, bourbon or rye. don't just sweeten the recipe because you can't drink it properly. 5.my preference is for an orange twist. 6. never shake a manhattan, always stir it with ice.

As you make a Manhatten, put your intentions into it by spilling your thoughts or emotions into the effort of mixing it.Sometimes this creates an atmosphere as you gain its effects while drinking it.If you make it in a state of Love and appreciation of the reasons you drink it,the drink seems to turn out perfect. If you are in a bitter, uncaring mood, the drink brings upon you the mood you do not seek.

I like manhattans with a good quality bourbon or Canadian whiskey. Don't leave out the bitters (I use Angostura). And a couple of drops of cherry juice (about as much as clings to the cherry--don't shake it off) is great. The best is for you to try all the variations and pick the one you like most--don't let "purists" dictate your own taste.

Well there's a difference between a perfect manhattan and the perfect manhattan. A perfect manhattan is about a double shot of whiskey, with a splash of sweet vermouth and a splash of dry vermouth, while the perfect manhattan is up to you. I prefer a double shot of crown with a splash of cherry juice, no vermouth or bitters for me.

    1 part sweet (red) vermouth

2 parts whiskey -- We use Old Overholt Rye whiskey but Jack Daniels will do

a spoonful of cherry juice and a smashed cherry for each glass

We make these by the pitcher and they do go down smooth.

I use rye whiskey instead of bourbon, but stick pretty much to the standard measures otherwise.

    Use rye, don't substitute.

    Don't forget the cherry.
