15 AnswersSingles & Dating4 years agoMan bag options: Carrying a book out in public?
Silly question, but I'm living in a big city, and oftentimes I travel around freely (bus and subway) with just a wallet and phone in my pockets. However, I do like reading while en route, but don't want to carry a book/e-book in my hands the whole time, or bring an entire backpack or messenger bag to stick the book in. The book would be too big for my pockets. Any options that would appeal to a college-age male student?
I'm envious of you ladies for getting purses, if only we could wear those without getting laughed at :)
5 AnswersFashion & Accessories4 years agoWhat is an average Chinese (as foreign language) course at a western (US, UK, EU) university like?
or more specifically: do introductory chinese language classes offered by universities usually concentrate only on, for example, speaking and comprehension, at least for the first semester? Or do students usually also learn writing and reading at the same pace?
This is in regards to an average 4-6 hr-wk course, not an intensive course.
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)4 years agoTaking a big exam after a 12 hour transcontinental flight! How many days before should I book the flight?
I'm flying from Germany to Hong Kong to take a test (amongst other reasons, Germany doesn't have the required test center), and that means a 12 hour flight. I can decide when to fly and when to book the exam day. How many days, at minimum, should I recover from jetlag before taking the (3 hour) test?
2 AnswersAir Travel4 years agoIs it acceptable to store belongings in a hotel room for a few days, as I am transitioning between apartments?
DETAILS: My current apartment contract ends at the end of this month, and my new one starts at the beginning of the following month. Give or take a few days to obtain the key, and I have a few days without an apartment, and nowhere to put my stuff.
If I were to check into a hotel during this time (for four days or so), would it be appropriate if I also brought my apartment stuff (not too much, at about 3 lrg suitcases, but also obviously non-touristy items such as kitchen equipment and a clothes drying rack) up to my room as well? Problems from the front desk?
3 AnswersPacking & Preparation4 years agoDoes writing on my skin damage the ballpoint cartridge?
I have a LAMY ballpoint pen, and before I put it to paper (copying notes or sketching) I do a quick stroke on the back of my hand, to get the ink going. But recently I find that the ink runs out really fast, or perhaps the ball mechanism is failing. Is that bad practice? Perhaps, oil from the skin messes up the ball?
1 AnswerDrawing & Illustration4 years agoIs inviting a German to see the new Dunkirk film politically sensitive?
Soo I'm studying in Germany, and I'd really like to see the new Dunkirk film and would like to invite some pals. But seeing as the topic is WWII, as well as a German victory, I'm not sure if I should expect some backlash, or at the very least expect some heavy discussion after the viewing. thoughts?
2 AnswersMovies4 years agoMy drunk friend ran full speed into my apartment and into an open cabinet door, and tore the door right off its hinges. Can I repair this?
So, if you can imagine it, the head-height cabinet door, I would say out of 3/4" MDF, was absentmindedly swung open, and my friend ran into the door, against the swing direction. So the door was torn right off, the hinge still attached to the door and two holes in the casement.
Any ideas as to how I can repair this, perhaps an epoxy to squeeze into the holes and re-screw the hinge?
The friend is fine by the way, he's now kept away from my apartment :)
Vielleicht was kulturelles.
Für meine Kusine, die aus Australian fliegt, die gerade von der Uni absolviert hatte, würde ich eher was wertvolles kaufen, vielleicht einen teueren Kugelschreiber. Ideen von euch?
2 AnswersUmfragen & Abstimmungen4 years agoa female acquaintance suggests getting dinner, is she interested?
We're both university students who were paired together to practice language. We've met up for this purpose five times now, mostly at a cafe or at the library, but once at her apartment at her suggestion. At our latest meeting the topic turns to food, and she suggested that we try dinner at a restaurant some time.
I'm new at this, but does this show that she is interested in something beyond a language partnership or friendship?
