23/M/Tx What else do you need to know? Gay Atheist but supportive of other’s spirituality provided it is not infringing on my rights Moderate Republican (don't hold that against me!) I am a pretty friendly guy, feel free to IM me if you would like to chat :)

  • Whats up with YA?

On questions I have answered tonight I am not able to see my response or any others that posted before me but can see the ones after. For example it displays “you have already answered this question” and “4 answers XX hours left to answer” but it does not show anything prior to my post, not anyone’s avatar or response or anything. Did I have a stroke or is someone else experiencing this as well? I ask the question here since this is the only section I have been in tonight.

  • Meeting people at the club?

I recently went to the local gay club (I don't go that often, I much prefer a small group of friends/ quiet bar type atmosphere) and was approached by several interesting people. One of the fellas just walked up, introduced himself and then just looked at me as if to say "now what happens?". Because I was thrown of guard I didn't initiate the conversation either which only lead to a horrifically awkward pause before he excused himself. In retrospect I suppose I should have bailed him our and started talking but if I am approached should they not be prepared to at least start the small talk or am I simply over thinking this?

  • What should you be doing right now?

  • Why do people insist that we should only be gay to the extent they are straight?

I often hear people say that we should not “flaunt our lifestyle” or “I don’t go around telling everyone I am straight”. I see a huge difference, can we not agree within American society we are placed on a seriously disadvantaged playing field? What recourse do I have to affect change if I don’t stand up and be counted? If you are straight you have the right to love, marry, and grow old with the person of your choosing. Because of our homophobic culture in most places I can be fired for being gay, can not marry and receive those legal protections, and can not have my partner covered under my insurance. Does it not seem hypocritical for someone to say we should not bring these glaring discriminations into the public eye? I say when we are treated equally there will be no need for me to distinguish myself from my straight brethren. What is the rationale of people that claim to have no problem with my orientation and yet want me to not "stand out", and complain?

  • Religion/faith/spirituality only path to moral behavior?

I participated in church services as a child but later decided it did not make sense for me. I was not disenchanted due to my sexual orientation or any other factor I just don’t subscribe to it. I did not grow up in a very religious household, church was more of a social outlet for my small hometown than a spiritual center. I am very supportive of my friends and extended family and realize it serves as a very important and positive aspect of their life. I feel that I have a very strong moral compass, this does not however stem from any belief in a higher power/being. What is the rational of people that claim being a “good person” can come from religion/faith/spirituality.

Please keep in mind that while this is a very sensitive question and passions run high I mean no disrespect to anyone.

  • I am constantly being mistaken for straight!?

It bothers me because I feel like I am hiding my orientation...but I know in reality I am just not very effeminate. I am involved at the most visible level of my company’s LGBT employee group, wear a equality pin on my shirt and profess my love for Depeche Mode, it would seem that all I am missing is a feather boa! I realize the answer is not to act any different than normal or walk up to people and say “Hi I’m J.D. and I am gay” but does anyone else struggle with this or am I just THAT neurotic?
