Why do mergers scare employees?
What is about this that gets employees nervous? It seems to have really bad effect on a company's morale - esp. if there's been lots of layoffs
2 AnswersCorporations5 years agoCould you have more MORE followers than you THINK you have?
If you have say 40 followers, maybe a few share your ideas. I'm thinking 300 Facebook friends isn't as dumb as it sounds. Suppose a follower has various circles of friends (analogous to one's school friends, church friends, etc.). A circle could be like a trading post for info. Somebody has a car repair problem. Somebody else has a career problem. Your answers might be going around these units - cliques, cells, whatever you want to call them. A loose aggregate of 300 "friends" doesn't make much sense but this does.
I'm sharing this idea with Yahoo users but not necessarily you alone.

"She an agnostic. The only guy she can get along with is a RICH agnostic."
Does this joke make you hopping mad? Does it make you want to make You Tube videos with you denouncing at all these people who refuse to question their beliefs? Or do you think it's just not that funny?

2 AnswersYahoo Answers6 years agoIs the movie Frozen 3-D animation copied from pencil and paper?
Frozen is the biggest hit movie in history, therefore more popular than Shrek, which some would describe as old-fashioned clay-mation done with a computer, animation so poor people wouldn't go to see it unless it had big-name actors like Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy.
Clue - Frozen is not a Pixar movie. It's from the Walt Disney studio.
The Wiki for Frozen mentions only technical innovations for special effects. It says nothing about what's most impressive about Frozen - figures with nuanced facial expressions and body language that are exactly like classic Disney films of the 1950s.
A good example of what can be done with a pencil - one of the all-time favorite characters, Tinkerbell, is a mime, using only face and body to communicate. The animator who drew her was in a very real sense an actor who played the part.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3k8nto5SgI
The Frozen characters, which are beautifully animated, look like they were done with either an ordinary pencil or a computer screen that shows pencil marks.
Below - someone put Frozen on You Tube and avoided the copyright problem by adding the music of an opera, The Magic Flute, which happily avoids Frozen's mediocre music.
3 AnswersMovies6 years agoWhat does the 2009 book This Time Is Different say about Obama?
This Economist article refers to a study widely-circulated during the financial crisis that led to the Great Recession. Based on the history of such crises going back to the Middle Ages, including Europe and Asia, the authors said that what happens in a situation like this is as predictable as clockwork - years of high unemployment followed by a great deficit.
During the last presidential election, the authors affirmed that recent history had showed that their predictions were accurate.
Is this true, and does the present, much lower unemployment rate also confirm what they said in 2009?
1 AnswerEconomics6 years agoAnybody know about Russian tea?
Just curious. I know that some delicatessens in the US serve tea the way the Russians like it - in a glass, sweet, with raspberry. I wonder how they drink hot tea in a glass without hurting their fingers. Informed answers please, not guesses.
4 AnswersNon-Alcoholic Drinks6 years agoCons: How do feel about a gay man inventing your computer?
Alan Turing, one of the key figures of WW2 because he invented the programmable electronic binary computer, was, we are certain, a gay man.

You might also consider that the *personal* computer is, to a large extent, the invention of people who might be described as "hippies" - sci fi fans who played around with electronics as a hobby - called "hackers" because they actually were hacks - amateurs, many of whom were given to "counter-culture" ideas, the most famous being visionary and onetime LSD aficionado Steve Jobs - not to be confused with the "straights" of IBM, whom they took ideas from but laughed at.

1 AnswerClassical6 years agoAnyone recall Nixon's walk to the anti-war demonstration?
In a previous question, I raised the question of Nixon's sanity.
What is ALMOST AS STRANGE as Nixon's pre-dawn walk to the Lincoln Memorial to mumble a defense of his policies to bewildered anti-war demonstrators (completely different from what he wrote about the event), is that it has always received little attention. A story in the papers, and that was it. No SNL sketches, etc. Not talked about much.
Who did he walk with? One account says just his butler, but this mentions Secret Service.
Motive - I can only think it was to prove what he said "I will not be intimidated" - like philosophy and art majors were a threat to the Commander and Chief of Armed Forces.
Nixon - "The hotter things get, the cooler I get."
Although Nixon could be described as cool in a crisis, he was notorious for considering in the nuclear option.
To see proof - google "nixon photo demonstrators"

"The popular hobby is in the sights of extremist Islamist fighters, who this week rounded up 15 boys and young men in the eastern province of Diyala for pursuing a pastime now deemed un-Islamic. Three have already been executed, according to a security official in the area who spoke to NBC News on condition of anonymity."

1 AnswerClassical6 years agoVelvet Underground: guilty of sensationalism?
I'm asking this NOT to count the group's lovers and haters but to foster critical thinking. I once commented that a particular song on You Tube, despite its good points, was not one of the group's best, and it was hidden - marked as "spam"!
What I'm talking about is admiration versus fandom. I won't deny Lou Reed's genius for a moment, but I think some mistakes were made. I'd say that the Velvets acted more responsibly than the Stones, including SIR Mick Jagger.
Your opinions - guilty or not? "Not" includes insanity.
First, a number by the Sir Mick and the Stones. Mick, who is dating the Baroness Marianne Faithful, makes fun of a a social climber.
