  • Can my landlord evict me because another tenant flooded my apartment?

The other day I woke up to water pouring into my apartment for the ceiling (I live in a basement apartment in a 12 plex). I managed to get buckets/pots/pans under the larger water leaks and towels under the smaller leaks but my property was already waterlogged at that point. I called the Landlord (also the property owner) after i got the containers under the leaks but the water was still pouring in.

Landlord showed up looked at my unit briefly then spoke with the tenant in the unit above mine. She came back to my unit and said "are you sure all the water came from the ceiling?" I said "YES". she proceeded to tell me the other tenant had forgotten to turn the water off when she was filling her babies bath tub and didn't put the plug in the drain. I told the landlord that i would assess the damage and call her in the morning because i was real ticked off at that moment.

I called my insurance company and they don't cover me because the flooding was not a type that is covered by insurance.

Called the landlord after hearing this and asked her "What is going to be done about the situation" she said her insurance didn't cover it and i replied "well mine doesn't either" to which she said "oh well" I then told her i wanted the ceiling fixed because the tiles look like they're going to fall off ... she said she wasn't going to fix it and that either i could give her my notice or she would give me notice.

I can't afford to move anywhere else because I'm a college student and housing in this area is very limited and very expensive. I need to be close to the school because there is no public transit and i do not have a car anymore. I have about $2000 in damages to my personal property.

I'm planning on taking the upstairs idiot to small claims court after i speak to my lawyer on Friday. I'm planning on filing papers with the Landlord & Tenant Board on Friday too for non repair of unit.

I'm pretty sure that the landlord can't evict me because I've always paid my rent on time or early, I've never had a complaint against me, I am quiet and NEVER have company over ... basically I'm a model tenant in every sense of the word.

    Any advice on this issue?

The idiot upstairs did the same thing 3 weeks ago when I was out of province visiting family and a friend stayed in my apartment (with the landlords consent) to take care of my 2 cats. The friend is more then willing to testify if it comes to that. I took lots of pictures after the most recent incident but it's hard to photograph water damaged fabric stuff and mattresses. I also had the building superintendent view my apartment after this incident so i would have a 3rd party witness.

  • Checked baggage or carry on?

Okay flying BUF to DFW with a layover in CVG

i want to bring a vibrator with me on my trip but i'm wondering if i should put it in my checked baggage or if it's carry on.

Will i get in trouble if i pack it?

on a comical note ---- if you do yourself in an airplane bathroom does that mean you're in the mile high club?

  • First time flyer with questions?

I'm a first time flier departing from Buffalo with a layover in Cincinnati then to Dallas Fort Worth.

do i have to check my bag at Cincinnati or will it automatically get moved to my Dallas plane?

how do i know where to pick up my luggage?

how much does it cost to check a bag? or is it included in the ticket price.

I'll be using Delta Airlines for this leg of my trip.

on my return flight i'll be flying out of Dallas Fort Worth with a layover in Philadelphia before i hop a plane back to Buffalo. I'll be using US Airlines for the return trip.

Can anyone answer my questions and maybe give me an opinion on those airlines or any other general advice for a first time flier.

  • Holocaust vs. the Atom Bombs?

okay so my friends and i got into a quite heated debate over this one but it made me wonder what other people think.

please don't think me a bad person for asking because both were tragic and avoidable incidents but:

    Which was worse?

Dropping the atom bombs and causing long term genetic/medical problems

    or

killing a few million people at once

  • My uncle just died?

i mean i knew the guy and all and he was suffering from a long term ailment resulting from a car accident 10 years ago.

i know i should feel bad but i don't feel anything.

my mother and step father are in tears and my mum is asking why i'm not sad.

to tell the truth i had a friend die a year ago and i was much more upset about that than what i feel now and this guy was family.

    Is something wrong with me?

  • Dogue du Bordeaux question?

We're looking into getting a Dogue du Bordeaux.

we've done the research, spoken to the vet who recommended a reputable breeder.

we spoke with the breeder, met them and after a long process we got accepted as future owners.

my question is for Dogue owners. what is your dog like personality/temperment?

we've done the book work but we're looking for more personal experience.

  • knocked up cat needs to get fixed?

my aunt has a girl cat and she got knocked up by my aunts boy cat.

so i've been telling her fo a long time (before the cat got knocked up) to get her fixed but she never "got around to it"

so now kitty is gonna be having her kittens in the next couple of weeks and the un altered male cat is still in the house. and i know that this cat will just get preggers again if they don't fix one of them (getting rid of one is not an option in her opinion)

the situation is that my aunt is on welfare and can't afford to spay or neuter.

she's in Southern Ontario Canada (in Hamilton)

does anyone know if there are vets that work for real cheap (like teaching vet schools) or like vets that take monthly payments?

i'd pay for it myself but i'm living pay to pay. please help my aunt. if it was up to me the boy cat would be off to a farm or something like that.

  • New farm looking to foster farm animals?

my fiance and i recently put an offer in on a small 8 acre hobby farm and we were looking to provide foster care for farm type animals (horses, goats, donkeys etc....)

my question is how do you go about doing this? do i contact the humane society? we're not rich we're a typical pay cheque to pay cheque couple and we're worried about the medical bills more than anything, does the humane society look after that kind of thing or is it out of pocket?

i'm a farm kid born and raised and he's more than willing to learn to care for the animals.

i guess what i'm saying is that we want to do something good but we're worried about the financial implications when it comes to non routine care.

  • what's the deal with designer dogs?

i'm sick of people advertising puppies as "purebred" labradoodle or "registered" goldendoodle heck i'm sick of all these freak combo "designer" dogs.

say it like it is the dog is a mutt, it's not such a bad thing. the only difference is that a mutt will cost you 50 bucks and the same dog claiming to be a labradoodle will set you back 600 bucks.

anyone else sick of these designer dogs?

    http://www.tonawanda-news.com/newtoday/gnnnewtoday...

now i'm not saying it isn't possible but i think that there's more to this story then the news and the family are saying.

personally i can't imagine the dog would do something like that.

what do you all think about this?

  • depo provera question?

i am 23 and have been on Depo for close to 5 years.

i have never had any problems with it and my doctor agrees agrees that it is the right choice for me but she has told me that it could lead to sterility.

i do not want children neither does my fiancee. they just aren't for us.

my question is: has anyone else been on depo for as long as me or longer? if so how do you like it and have you experienced any medical problems as a direct result of using the drug for so long.

i already take calcium pills at the advice of my doctor because of the risk of bone problems due to prolonged use.
