  • HELP MY BETTA FISH! is he sick or just old?

I got my betta fish as a gift from the nail salon I normally go to over a year ago. I don't know how old he was when they first gave him to me, but I know he grew slightly in the past year.

I noticed the past few days he doesn't always come to the surface when I call his name like he used to. When he does come to the surface and I drop his pellets (which he gobbles up normally), he refuses to eat, or spits it out. I purchased some freeze dried brine fish in the event that maybe he was just tired of his food, but he didn't eat that either. I also noticed that his tail and bottom fin appear slightly "folded" if you will. His fins are not clamped, nor are they experiencing rot - it just looks like he stayed at the bottom of the tank too long and they just happened to fold. When he swims around, he still moves all his fins elegantly, but with a kink in it. He's slightly lethargic and stays at the bottom more than he used to. He doesn't have popeye, his scales are not protruding, no noticeable "velvet". I put a mirror up to his tank once every few days, and he still flares and all. I've changed the water as well. Also, his color has not faded at all, still the same gorgeous red. I just don't know if he's sick, or just getting old.

Side note - I just have him in a simple 1 gallon bowl with treated water for bettas. No tank, no heater. I've had bettas before and never found those things necessary unless you were breeding them. And my bettas have always been happy, tons of bubbles at the surface with no problems until now.

    Any suggestions or thoughts?

  • taking a taxi from puerto plata airport to hotel?

Me and 2 other girlfriends booked a trip to Puerto Plata at Lifestyles resort. I was just wondering, is it not a good idea just to get a taxi that's waiting outside? Will they hustle us more than a shuttle service? Will it be cheaper actually? Is it safe?

I'd love any answers from someone who lives around there or knows the area well enough, thanks!

  • How to get rid of my frizzy hair!?

When I was young I used to have stick straight silky black asian hair, and when I became a teenager, it turned evil and became super frizzy no matter what I would do - i'm blame hormones.

I'm now in my 20's and still haven't found anything for my hair so that after i shower, it will dry stick straight silky without frizz, and without having to straighten or blow dry with a round brush.

My regimen that has mildly been working: I shower at night, and only shampoo and condition using Dove Intense Damage Therapy every other day, and sleep on my wet hair. In the morning, it's not as frizzy as it would be had i left it to air dry during the day. I would just put in a leave in conditioner and twist it up with a clip. But i HATE putting it up all the time!

Any products I can use, or anything I can change in my routine without adding regular hair straightening or blow drying?

  • How to paint a ceramic coffee mug?

I want to paint a ceramic coffee mug as a gift this christmas. Is there a specific kind of ceramic mug I should be looking for? What kind of paints should I use? I will only be painting the outside, but I want to make sure it's one of those paints that can get baked in or are permanent, etc. Any tips, suggestions? Brands of items would be great too.

    Merry Christmas - thank you!

  • Things to do in NYC with boyfriend?

So my boyfriend and I are spending our "late christmas" together just before new years. Since we both live very close to the city, we've pretty much been everywhere touristy; all the museums except the guggenheim, central park, chinatown, brooklyn bridge, statue of liberty, south street seaport, times square, broadway, etc.

I want to take him somewhere else in the city that will be fun for the both of us - somewhere that we both haven't gone to, some place not super touristy, whether it involves an activity, or not, whatever, just something new to experience... something along the lines of "hidden gems" in the city.

    Any suggestions?

  • What can I do, drink or take to keep myself awake and alert to study?

I just recently started drinking coffee to do the job, but i'm not a big fan, and it doesn't really keep me focused. I've taken no doz and stacker 2's, and 5 hour energy, all of which kept me alert and concentrated, but my chest would have intermittent tightness, so i'm nervous to do them again. I really don't want to have to resort to adderall, so i'd love some suggestions! does emergen-c alert! work??? And just to be clear, i'm healthy and in my 20's, and in grad school - help!

  • Tips for vacation at Myrtle Beach?

My girlfriends and I are planning a vacation to Myrtle Beach from August 14-August 18. We already know we're going to be staying at an ocean front hotel, but which ones are the best for your buck as well as a great view and surrounded by everything? It also should be a hotel that isn't super family oriented being that we're a bunch of 24 year olds just trying to have fun, we don't want to have to worry about kids screaming down the hallway. I just wanted to know what other things can we do out there other than the beach? I understand the nightlife is great - any recommendations? Best drinks for your dollar as well as a nonsketchy place? Preferably a place where we could dance? And also, where are there places to shop and what kind of stores are there? How far is the nearest airport? What are other things we could do other than eat drink beach and sleep? Any sites or any places i should see?

Most importantly, how should I prepare my hair for the weather?!!?

    Thanks! Best answer gets stars!

  • Best hotel to stay in Vegas?

Me and four of my girlfriends are taking a trip to Vegas in August. We wanted some good insightful hotel suggestions. We're looking for a nice hotel - no crap - very clean, extremely presentable, near mainly everything in the city, has a gorgeous pool, other amenities, casino inside, and basically a hotel that's fancy but on a budget [if needed].

I would like answers only from those who have been to Vegas and have truly experienced it. Best answer gets stars!

  • How to care for french bulldog in the summer?

What are some things I can do to keep my french bulldog comfortable as the weather gets warmer? I got him last September so I never really had to deal with him during hot weather. I see how he gets when he's tired from playing or being outside - it's like a little boy wheezing like crazy. I have two other dogs, a shepherd mix and a sheltie and I've never dealt with a flat nose breed before. Any tips will do!

He also actually has a habit of wheezing like crazy when he gets over excited from seeing other dogs at the dog park and I take him home immediately because his breathing gets me nervous. Is it okay to leave him as he is or should I take him out of the situation to calm him down?

  • Why is my dog peeing while lying down?

I have a 5 year old german shepherd collie mix. I usually play a rigorous game of catch with her in the backyard for 20-30 minutes to get her exercise in for day. She drinks tons of water throughout play and after play in the house. Afterwards, she usually lies down in one spot, cools off, and pants. After 15 minutes of rest, there's a clear liquid puddle under her when she gets up. I'm pretty sure it's pee but it doesn't look or smell like it. She only does this after playing a lot. Is she peeing while lying down? Why is she doing this? Is there a way to prevent it?

    Thanks for your help!
